The art of l2-year~old Russian artist Olga
Kaydanov will be exhibited March 19 - Apnl 5 in the Dnscoll University
Center's Founders Lounge. An opening reception for the artist is
scheduled for March 25 from 6 - 8 p.m.
Critics have called Kaydanov's fantastical
paintings "an unusual combination of a child's purity and freshness
and the maturity and skill of an accomplished (adult) artist."
Kaydanov, who was born in Russia in 1981,
began studying art at the age of five-and-a-half with Richard May.
Kaydanov's work is shown in the Central Museum of Byelorussia and
in international exhibitions in Poland, India, and Mozambique.
In May of 1990 several of herpaintings
were shown in Moscow's Tretiakov Gallery, the most prestigious gallery
of the former Soviet Union.
In 1989, Kaydanov and her family left
Russia to live in the United States. Her first solo exhibition in
the U.S. was in 1990 at the Philip 3. Steele Gallery, Rocky Mountain
College of Art and Design. Her second exhibition in July 1990 was
at the Jewish Community Center.
Kaydanov is a sixth grader at Loredo
Middle School.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
